The local hospital in Oranjestad, Aruba is Horacio E. Oduber Hospital. The history of our hospital goes back to 1920 when the Dominican Sisters founded the first hospital in Aruba. The first hospital was built in the heart of Oranjestad and since 1977 it is the home of the elderly. The present hospital opened in 1977 and was named after Aruba’s first medical doctor Dr. H.E. Oduber. Before the hospital opened its doors, Dr. Oduber treated his patients at his home. The building still exists and has been restored to its original state by a local architect who still lives there.
